Your Life Has Biblical Potential
This unit is designed to help students better understand the American Dream and its affect on the North American Church. Questions such as What is the American Dream? and How does the American dream continue to affect, and be affected by, the biblical story of God's love and promise for His people? will be discussed.
Lesson 1: The American Dream: Fact or Fable?--This lesson introduces the question of which values should sustain a person: those of the good life as seen in the story of the American dream, or those of personhood revealed in the Bible. It also explores whether these are contradictory values, or values in partnership toward the pursuit of the good life? (Acts 2:42-47; Romans 1:18-32; 12:18-25; 1 Corinthians 1:18-25)
Lesson 2: God's Story--This lesson presents two stories: the story of the American dream and the story of God's pursuit of His pilgrim people. (Genesis 12:1-4; Exodus--Deuteronomy; Psalm 106; Luke 3:7-9; John 1:1-18; 8:37-39, 44; Galatians 3:6-7)
Lesson 3: The End of the Story--This lesson deals with the purpose of God's story in calling us to faithfully live now in light of the end. (Matthew 5-7; 12:28; Mark 1:14-15; Acts 2:42-47)
